The Faul’s – Brazil
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Brazil! While some parts of the US were experiencing record floods a few months ago, here in Boa Vista there was a record flood as well. For a few days all the roads from Boa Vista had parts that were under water. It really didn’t cause any big problems other than a shortage of gasoline for a few days. Anyway, the river went back down and life went back to normal.
Christina finished high school and came to Brazil to spend a few months here before starting college in the US. Victoria came down for a month during summer break, and has since returned to the US to do her last semester of nursing. She is on track to be graduated from Western Kentucky University in December.
In our last letter we mentioned that there were big changes in the Brazilian Indian Agency, in Indian health, and in Indian education. At that time there was a lot of activity, meetings, planning for conferences, proposals to limit what missionaries could do, etc. Actually things have gotten very quiet since then. So, we as a mission continue to do what we have been doing.
We are working to register the Indian schools with the department of education. Basically, the missionaries started two schools years ago in two Indian villages, when the education department just was not able to do anything to establish and operate schools in these villages. Now, the education department wants these schools to be “official,” so we are scrambling to do all the things necessary to have “official” schools.
A few years ago, the Christian Indian pastors and leaders from all of Brazil formed an organization to strengthen the indigenous church. They have had conferences in various parts of the country, and are planning a conference here in Boa Vista for the 17th to the 20th of November. Tim is on the organizing committee. Wow! This Indian organization is very loosely organized, so there is a LOT of organizing to be done to put this conference together.
We do expect that as the Yanomami Christians participate in this conference, they will see that there are other Indian churches in Brazil, and that these other churches face similar problems. We trust that they will be encouraged to continue to develop as followers of Jesus Christ, to truly live transformed lives, and to share this good news with their neighbors and relatives who don’t already know.
Join us in prayer that:
• The Yanomami believers would really grow and mature in their faith,
• That we would have much wisdom in the bureaucratic situations we face,
• Victoria and Christina would continue to do well in their schooling.

Dear Family and Friends,
We are now in Pskov where we are helping Alexander Hubeev plant a new church. This past summer we had our 4th team working here. Today we again looked at a piece of land for sale that we originally thought was too small. However, we can build a small “House of Prayer” on this land with a second floor for a staff member. Alexander is finding out if the city will approved such a thing. This building would greatly enhance his ministry. When we arrived yesterday afternoon, he was a little down about his ministry. Pray for Alexander that he will be encouraged and see fruit.
Last night we stayed at a new Rehab center in a village called Lapitova. We had a 3 hour service with the guys in this center. This morning after more talk and prayer, we visited a “house of prayer” in this village that had burned down and now is reconstructed. When I walked in I thought a building similar to this would be just great for Alexander. Please pray about this possibility. More details later.
On to Petrozavodsk tonight. Pray for safe travel.
Much love,
Jim

Dear Family and Friends,
It is 5pm in Saransk and Vova, my interpreter, and I are packing now for the night train to Moscow. Today Barbara and I attended New Life Church. I gave greetings to the church from Agoura Bible Fellowship and the many people from our church who have participated in team ministry here. Pastor Vladimir asked us and Ron and Mary Mariani (from Folsom…here with us) to come to the platform and he thanked us for our ministry and prayed for us. Barbara will remain here until Nov. 4th. We first came here in 1996. Pray for Barbara as she has many important meetings during her remaining time with ladies groups and individuals. Many don’t know the Lord at all.
This afternoon Vova and I attended the New Life Church youth meeting. There was a sweet spirit with the leadership of Anton, who came to Christ thru Ron and |Mary several years ago. There were 10 students at the meeting. This is a good beginning.
I leave Saransk very fulfilled and pleased with the contacts I made with so many people and leaders. The one regret is not seeing Maxim. Barbara and I did meet with Vera, his mother, right after the service today. She was in tears most of the time. She has only been to see Maxim in prison once and she waited 4 hours and had only 10 minutes with him. He looked ok and was thrilled to see her. He gets only 4 visits per year. He sleeps in a large room of 70 men. The guards were yelling at her much of the waiting time. Please continue to pray for him (and her)…for protection, spiritual zeal to continue, and hope.
Again, thank you for your faithful prayers.
In Moscow, Vova, Gennady, and I will meet with the Vice President of the Russian Baptist Union and the main Youth Coordinator. Then, in the evening, we fly to St. Petersburg.
Love to all,
Jim

Dear Family and Friends,
Your prayers are helping us! Keep praying! We have averaged 5 – 6 appointments per day of various kinds the last 3 days. We wore out our interpreter today! Tues night we had a group of youth in our host home. 9 of them came including 3 unbelievers. Vova, my interpreter, led the meeting. He sang some songs and I gave my testimony and the Gospel. They hung out for hours after the meeting! We are developing great relationships with the unbelievers. Pray for Vanya (John) who was at the teen meeting and I will see him on Friday. Also, pray for Sasha and Alyona to be open to the Gospel message. Almost every time we take a taxi, the driver gets a good dose of the Gospel with a tract (with a number to call on the back) and a small new testament.
I will not see Maxim in prison as I found out it could be dangerous for him to be seen with me, an American. I am disappointed but I totally understand.
Please pray for 12 yr old Daniel, who was let down by his absent father, laughed at by his friends, and tried to hang himself on Monday. His grandmother raises 4 children by herself. She broke the lock on his door and took him down before it was too late.
She shared this at Barbara’s Monday night Bible study, where 3 other non-Christian neighbors asked many hard questions and joined in a lively discussion with the New Life sisters.
Love to all,
Jim and Barbara

Dear Liljegren Missions Prayer Team,
Forwarded message just arrived from Jim. I’m sending immediately because I failed to send out their message “We are now in Saransk meeting with many of our beloved friends. …” message from Saturday. I don’t want to get distracted again.
You will see in Jim’s message great opportunities to Praise Our Lord, and several gospel opportunities to take to the foot of the cross and cast them up on Jesus. Pray for His Spirits action to reach the hearts and souls of those who heard, or will hear, the gospel through these activities.
Beseech the Lord to provide wisdom and direction for Jim in connection with his desire to meet with his dear disciple Maxim who is in prison. The opposition being encountered could be from the enemy or from the Spirit for Maxim’s protection. Pray for discernment.

Dear Family and Friends,
Finally got a moment to write with lots of things happening here in Saransk. Sunday night’s concert at the old downtown house church (Victor, Pastor) was a huge success. This church of about 10 older saints hasn’t seen anything like this for decades!!! The church was full of musicians and people from other churches that we had helped plant plus some nonbelievers. We had a fantastic concert and 2 sermons (Victor and Gennady). During Gennady’s sermon a man came up front and knelt to rededicate himself to God. Gennady stopped his message and put a hand on his shoulder as the man cried and told God he was sorry for his sin!!! The fellowship after the service was electric as we saw people we had not seen for a number of years. How sweet and loving these relationships are. I had a chance to make several appointments with young people who wanted to talk to me. Today, I had one of them with Misha, the son of Sveta, the invalid. He is 19 and repented this August at a youth conference. His life is totally changed we met tonight for 2 1/2 hours studying the Gospel and what it means. Tomorrow night he wants to bring a friend or two to a spontaneous youth gathering in our apartment. Vova, my interpreter from Prague, will lead worship and sing and I will speak. Pray for this meeting. Still no word on my visit to Maxim. Seems that there is lots of opposition to it from several fronts. Pray for wisdom. I really want to see him. If we go, it will be 3 hrs by car to the other side of Mordovia. I really want to go.
Thanks for your prayers. Barbara met with a ladies Bible study group tonight and shared the Gospel with new people who came to the study. God is working and we can hardly keep up with Him!
Much love,
Jim and Barbara

Thank you again for your faithfulness in prayer,

AfricaHope “High 5” Kilimanjaro Mission
Dear Mission Partners:
Our “High 5” Kilimanjaro Mission Team is just 30 days from ascending Mt. Kilimanjaro in East Africa with the goal of reaching the summit of almost 20,000 feet. Our goal is to ascend the highest mountain in Africa in order to reach the lowest valley in the world. The Rift Valley is the largest, lowest, and longest valley in the world stretching from South Africa all the way past the Dead Sea in Israel. You need to know that our “High 5” missionary team members are paying for this awesome mountain climb, and we are trusting the Lord’s people to pay for our descent into the valley of the shadow of death.
As you have no doubt heard on the news, the famine and drought in East Africa is severe. Most of the animals have died and the few that are left are so weak they are about to die. The nomadic Maasai tribes people have been dependant upon their cows for centuries. Now they are dependant upon God and God’s people. This is God’s plan and time for the Maasai.
The timing is NOW to reach the Rift Valley. People are starving to death and eating the bark off of trees and worse. As Joel 3:14 says, “Multitudes, multitudes are gathered in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.” Our missionary team is preparing to enter this valley of decision in Jesus Name.
Lordwilling, we shall first minister to orphans and widows in the Korogocho slum together with the Africa Hope Ministries of Caroline Sarah, Susan Nyambura, and Aggrey Juma. Then after climbing Kilimanjaro, we shall participate in the launching of Africa Hope Bible Institute with the Maasai tribe on Oct. 19, 2011 and continue teaching the Maasai students the Word of God.
The training of these Maasai Pastors and Christian leadersto shepherd the sheep and plant Church~Schools in every village in the Rift Valley of Kenya is really our main 10~year objective. This is the “Rift Valley 20/20 Vision” 2010 ~ 2020.
Finally, we shall participate in the dedication celebration of the two brand new water wells at the Children’s Church and Amboseli~Kimana Church on Saturday & Sunday! Streams of life~giving water are now flowing in the desert and refreshing the Maasai in this parched land. This will be a great celebration of joy! Please pray for “Springs of Living Water” to spring up within every soul in Jesus Name as we preach Christ and Him crucified, risen, and coming again!
“Africa Hope Ministries Needs: “Help ~ Healing ~ Hope”
1) Ministry “Gift Bags” containing practical help and health supplies
2) Sponsorship of Africa Hope Bible Institute Dedication Luncheon ~ Oct. 19th
3) Bibles, Theology Courses, Proclaimers, NKJV Study Bibles, Evangecubes
4) Sponsorship of widows & orphans “Africa Hope Gift Bags”
5) 4 Africa Hope Bible Institute Tents, Bed Mats, Sheets for 40 AHBI Students
We are trusting the Lord for this promise from Isaiah 43:18~19: “Forget the former things. Do not dwell on the past. See, I the Lord am doing a new thing! Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wildernessand streams in the desert.”
We are also trusting the Lord to move upon the hearts of 10 “Founding Fathers”for AFRICA HOPE BIBLE INSTITUTE who will invest $500 in the founding of this school in the shadow of the Rift Valley and Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is a historic moment with the Maasai of the Rift Valley, and we are moving ahead by faith. Help us build a “Highway of Holiness”from the highest mountain in Africa … to the lowest valley in Jesus Name!
As of this writing, our team is trusting the Lord not only for their own missionary support to descend into this valley of decision ministry, but also for $5,000 of “pure religion”(James 1:27), healing and hope for Kenya. Team members are now assembling “Africa Hope Gift Bags” and working on the procurement of many needed supplies for this mission. We will hand-deliver as much humanitarian aid, supplies, and needed finances as we can carry in country.
We can’t do everything, but we can do something. What we can do, we should do in Jesus Name. “Whatever you did to the least of these my brethren, you did it unto me.” Jesus ~ Mt.25:40
Will you join us in this“Faith Adventure?” How to send “Africa Hope” in Jesus Name:

Church
Well we finally made it to Flagstaff, AZ on the first leg of our journey. You may have heard that we had some car problems along the way and prayed for us. Thanks to a few of our team members we were able to get the problem fixed. Please keep that in prayer for the rest of the trip along with the ministry at the House of Prayer Church. We’ve had a great day of fellowship together even though it took us “a little longer” than we would have liked. Perhaps God was protecting us from something further down the road. Delays may be difficult from a human perspective but they’re divine from a heavenly one… even if we don’t know the reason.
Tomorrow we have another half day of driving and then begin ministry in New Mexico. Keep the Czech Republic Team in your prayers as well.
Blessings,
New Mexico Team

Hey Mark
Quick update here since I’m borrowing a laptop and am on borrowed time. Things are going GREAT here at camp. Brian, Caleb, and I are doing very well with the team working in the English classes, playing games witht the other campers, and witnessing to them. The Russian people have taken to us, and we are taken by them. We have developed some STRONG relationships here. I just told Wendy via email that the only thing that will eclipse my sadness of leaving our new friends here is that I get to return to her and the kids. This work here is very addicting. Well, I’m off to an “Uno party.” The Uno card game is very popular here this week and is a great way to interact with people. We may stay up until midnight or later playing.

Dear Family and Friends,
We are now into our 3rd day of ministry here at the Family Camp. More people are coming each day. All ministries are producing fruit. The English classes are one of the best means to get to know people. I have 15 in my advanced English class. Most are believers and need encouragement. At the team meeting this morning, several team members asked for prayer for the people at the camp who need the Lord. Please pray for Nikita (15) from Sweden, Natasha, Aven (a Buddhist mother) from the Refugee Camp, Leonid from Jerusalem also from a Refugee Camp in Czech. More names will be added as we spend time with the people God has given to us. Pray for Mike San Martino, who will speak tonight at 7:30pm (10:30am in LA). I have been meeting with several leaders and emerging leaders one on one. I love doing this. Many share deep things that I can hold up to the Lord.
Please keep praying!!!
Much love,

The Harder’s – From Africa
Before we left our Kitengela, Kenya hotel, Carol led the hotel manager Mustapha Wazir to Christ! He was in between the Koran and the Bible, and now is in Christ! We gave him a bible and handed him off to Pastor Thomas & Elder Frank and the Kitengela church family. We traveled South with Aggrey and Bishop Richard to Emali where 63 Maasai pastors were waiting for us. We conducted an all day Bible Conference together with them and celebrated the Lord’s Table together in the bush.
There was great joy among the bush churches when we presented them with Maasai “Proclaimers” or as they call them the “Talking Bush Bibles.” 85% of the Maasai cannot read or write so these audio-bibles in Maasai were living water to thirsty souls. We proceeded to the “Children’s Church” far out in the bush. Our 4X4 rig was challenged by the journey, but it was well worth it. We got to see the new water well and the streams in the desert bursting forth from the dry ground. The people here have walked nearly 7 miles (one way) for water from a muddy river for many years. It was a long hard journey and the water made them all sick from parasites. Now water is flowing pure and sweet right next to the “Children’s Church.” Carol taught the chidren and we preached the Gospel to the people. The first people to respond were the two oldest people in the region. It was a tremendous breakthrough for these two elders to repent and confess Christ after many years of resistance. It all happened at the Children’s Church in the bush. Unless we become as little children, we shall never see the Kingdom of God.
We went to the Maasai Market in Kimana-Amboseli where Carol discovered numerous African bargains. It is traditional for the Maasai to give a unique Maasai name to those who come to minister among them. Last year I received the name “Saruni” which means one who brings people together. After observing Carol as a teacher and evangelist among the villages, Carol was given the Maasai name: “MrsCJesu.” This is Maasai for “Praise the Lord!” She is my wife, so therefore she is “Mrs.” Her name begins with “C” and she loves Jesus … so Carol’s Maasai name is now officially: “Mrs. C Jesu” Praise the Lord!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS! After flying from Kenya to Uganda, we took a 7 hour bus ride to Northern Uganda. We endured the non-stop bawdy comedy of a Muslim “Bus Jester” who entertained everyone up and down the aisle with dirty jokes and stories. Suddenly our bus swerved in the darkness and almost tipped over as another vehicle without lights came head on in our lane. It was a close call and sobered the 60+ passengers on our bus. Pastor James Okori then announced to the passengers that the Lord has spared the lives of everyone on board because of His mercies and His missionaries on board. He asked the “Bus Comedian” where he would be had we all crashed and died. The joker was silent. He had no answer. Then Pastor James and several of the other pastors traveling with us preached the Gospel to listening hearts and ears throughout the rest of our journey. The Gospel message entered deeply into every heart! Thank you again for praying! We have arrived safely home in Lira by the mercies of the Lord and the help of your prayers.
It is Sunday, May 22nd, and we have had a wonderful day preaching the Gospel … first in the Church and then all over the nation! As the Lord would have it, Carol & I and our Africa Hope Bible Institute Board scheduled a “Press Conference” announcing this week’s graduate courses we shall be teaching at the school. Six news reporters from the radio, newpapers, and television came to the press conference today after church. After covering our Bible School story, they plied us with questions about the “May 21 false prophecy” and the end of the world. Even here in Lira, Uganda there was fear and even a bill board advertizing the end of the world on May 21, 2011. Today, May 22nd, the billboard was torn down and became the major topic of conversation in this region.
As a result, we spent the afternoon preaching the Gospel and announcing the Good News of the Kingdom and the return of our King on the radio, in the newspapers, and on Ugandan television! We are still here after this latest “False Prophecy” of judgment upon the world, because we are still living in the age of grace and mercy. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
Tomorrow we begin the week long Bible Conference teaching at Africa Hope Bible Institute. Thank you for praying to the Lord of the Harvest and investing in this great harvest of souls in Africa. God has opened a great door of opportunity in this land we are happy to be here as your missionary Ambassadors in Jesus Name!

Greetings “Jambo” from Kenya! I knew she was good. I knew that I loved her. But I just haven’t appreciate just how lovely, passionate, and good my wife Carol really is until this mission!
On Thursday: In the Dandora slum we brought hope to the orphans and widows served so well by the Africa Hope ministries of Caroline Sarah. Together with Aggrey, Susan, and Thomas, Carol taught the “Wordless Book” with words and also brought comfort to our young friend Grace. Her husband Vincent was a gatekeeper in the house of the Lord at All Nations Church in Dandora when a Mongiki gang of robbers attacked the church and beat Vincent to death. Now Vincent’s young wife Grace is a widow and she and her 3 young children are part of our Africa Hope ministry to the widows and fatherless in Dandora. Please pray for Grace and her family of fatherless children as she now is part of the ministry of Caroline Sarah in Dandora Africa Hope Ministries.
On Friday: At the Gil Harder Academy in Kitengela, we delivered new posters, books, school supplies, and encouraged our teachers. When it came time for Chapel, Carol not only taught with the “Picture Story Board” but evangelized the 49 students of which 19 prayed to receive Christ as their personal Savior! On Saturday, May 14, Today: With passion and impact, Carol conducted our “Teacher Training Conference” with our school teachers, staff, and board members. Carol has taught the bible for over 30 years and home~schooled all 4 of our children. I am blessed and our children are blessed by her teachings. The response was wonderful, and we pray for eternal fruit in the currency of the Kenyan lives and nation. I am blessed and proud of Carol. Thank God for this godly teacher and wife!
LIVING WATER! We have been praying for a water project with our Maasai friends in ministry here in Kenya. As the Lord would have it, we got the news directly from our missionary friend Carol Perkins and Bishop Richard Keturai at the outset of our “Teacher’s Conference” today. It was so awesome to hear that the “Children’s Church” now has water! After much prayer and opposition, the drilling began. Other wells in the region have hit bitter salty water. The scientific water geologist said “Stop” drilling when no water was found at 130 meters (390 feet). The financial concerns were also shouting “Stop.” However, the Well Digger said, “Go” and let us drill 150 Meters” because God is telling me to drill deeper. At 145 meters (435 feet) the drill hit a large river of water which gushed out at high pressure. Immediately the local village people ran to taste the water to taste and see if it was good. It is crystal clear, pure, sweet water!
THANK YOU for praying for living water to be found. This river of life is flowing now throughout the Rift Valley of Kenya from hidden springs in the rock. The “Childrens Church” was started by children and now has living water. The well is a gusher that will never run dry. God has provided springs in the desert!
Tomorrow is Sunday, May 15. We shall preach in Kitengela and then travel South to Emali to conduct a Pastor’s Conference with the Maasai Pastors on Monday. On Tuesday we travel farther South into the bush of the Rift Valley to the “Children’s Church” where the water of life is flowing to conduct a great evangelistic outreach to all the surrounding villages. Pray for a great turning to the Lord in this dry and barren land where no water has been. The people are hungry and thirsty here.
We are fine. Carol is amazing. God is so good. It is His nature! Thank you for sending “Africa Hope” to this place where there are now streams in the desert! Together, let us “Drill Deeper” into the Rock of our Salvation … until the streams of living water flow out of our inner as Jesus promised
