The Faul’s – Brazil

Dear Friends,
Greetings from Brazil! While some parts of the US were experiencing record floods a few months ago, here in Boa Vista there was a record flood as well. For a few days all the roads from Boa Vista had parts that were under water. It really didn’t cause any big problems other than a shortage of gasoline for a few days. Anyway, the river went back down and life went back to normal.
Christina finished high school and came to Brazil to spend a few months here before starting college in the US. Victoria came down for a month during summer break, and has since returned to the US to do her last semester of nursing. She is on track to be graduated from Western Kentucky University in December.
In our last letter we mentioned that there were big changes in the Brazilian Indian Agency, in Indian health, and in Indian education. At that time there was a lot of activity, meetings, planning for conferences, proposals to limit what missionaries could do, etc. Actually things have gotten very quiet since then. So, we as a mission continue to do what we have been doing.
We are working to register the Indian schools with the department of education. Basically, the missionaries started two schools years ago in two Indian villages, when the education department just was not able to do anything to establish and operate schools in these villages. Now, the education department wants these schools to be “official,” so we are scrambling to do all the things necessary to have “official” schools.
A few years ago, the Christian Indian pastors and leaders from all of Brazil formed an organization to strengthen the indigenous church. They have had conferences in various parts of the country, and are planning a conference here in Boa Vista for the 17th to the 20th of November. Tim is on the organizing committee. Wow! This Indian organization is very loosely organized, so there is a LOT of organizing to be done to put this conference together.
We do expect that as the Yanomami Christians participate in this conference, they will see that there are other Indian churches in Brazil, and that these other churches face similar problems. We trust that they will be encouraged to continue to develop as followers of Jesus Christ, to truly live transformed lives, and to share this good news with their neighbors and relatives who don’t already know.
Join us in prayer that:
• The Yanomami believers would really grow and mature in their faith,
• That we would have much wisdom in the bureaucratic situations we face,
• Victoria and Christina would continue to do well in their schooling.

Update 5 – Jim Liljegren – Russia

Dear Family and Friends,
We are now in Pskov where we are helping Alexander Hubeev plant a new church. This past summer we had our 4th team working here. Today we again looked at a piece of land for sale that we originally thought was too small. However, we can build a small “House of Prayer” on this land with a second floor for a staff member. Alexander is finding out if the city will approved such a thing. This building would greatly enhance his ministry. When we arrived yesterday afternoon, he was a little down about his ministry. Pray for Alexander that he will be encouraged and see fruit.

Last night we stayed at a new Rehab center in a village called Lapitova. We had a 3 hour service with the guys in this center. This morning after more talk and prayer, we visited a “house of prayer” in this village that had burned down and now is reconstructed. When I walked in I thought a building similar to this would be just great for Alexander. Please pray about this possibility. More details later.
On to Petrozavodsk tonight. Pray for safe travel.
Much love,
Jim

Dear Family and Friends,

It is 5pm in Saransk and Vova, my interpreter, and I are packing now for the night train to Moscow. Today Barbara and I attended New Life Church. I gave greetings to the church from Agoura Bible Fellowship and the many people from our church who have participated in team ministry here. Pastor Vladimir asked us and Ron and Mary Mariani (from Folsom…here with us) to come to the platform and he thanked us for our ministry and prayed for us. Barbara will remain here until Nov. 4th. We first came here in 1996. Pray for Barbara as she has many important meetings during her remaining time with ladies groups and individuals. Many don’t know the Lord at all.

This afternoon Vova and I attended the New Life Church youth meeting. There was a sweet spirit with the leadership of Anton, who came to Christ thru Ron and |Mary several years ago. There were 10 students at the meeting. This is a good beginning.

I leave Saransk very fulfilled and pleased with the contacts I made with so many people and leaders. The one regret is not seeing Maxim. Barbara and I did meet with Vera, his mother, right after the service today. She was in tears most of the time. She has only been to see Maxim in prison once and she waited 4 hours and had only 10 minutes with him. He looked ok and was thrilled to see her. He gets only 4 visits per year. He sleeps in a large room of 70 men. The guards were yelling at her much of the waiting time. Please continue to pray for him (and her)…for protection, spiritual zeal to continue, and hope.

Again, thank you for your faithful prayers.

In Moscow, Vova, Gennady, and I will meet with the Vice President of the Russian Baptist Union and the main Youth Coordinator. Then, in the evening, we fly to St. Petersburg.

Love to all,

Jim

Jim Liljegren

Dear Family and Friends,

Your prayers are helping us! Keep praying! We have averaged 5 – 6 appointments per day of various kinds the last 3 days. We wore out our interpreter today! Tues night we had a group of youth in our host home. 9 of them came including 3 unbelievers. Vova, my interpreter, led the meeting. He sang some songs and I gave my testimony and the Gospel. They hung out for hours after the meeting! We are developing great relationships with the unbelievers. Pray for Vanya (John) who was at the teen meeting and I will see him on Friday. Also, pray for Sasha and Alyona to be open to the Gospel message. Almost every time we take a taxi, the driver gets a good dose of the Gospel with a tract (with a number to call on the back) and a small new testament.

I will not see Maxim in prison as I found out it could be dangerous for him to be seen with me, an American. I am disappointed but I totally understand.

Please pray for 12 yr old Daniel, who was let down by his absent father, laughed at by his friends, and tried to hang himself on Monday. His grandmother raises 4 children by herself. She broke the lock on his door and took him down before it was too late.

She shared this at Barbara’s Monday night Bible study, where 3 other non-Christian neighbors asked many hard questions and joined in a lively discussion with the New Life sisters.

Love to all,

Jim and Barbara

Dear Liljegren Missions Prayer Team,

Forwarded message just arrived from Jim. I’m sending immediately because I failed to send out their message “We are now in Saransk meeting with many of our beloved friends. …” message from Saturday. I don’t want to get distracted again.

You will see in Jim’s message great opportunities to Praise Our Lord, and several gospel opportunities to take to the foot of the cross and cast them up on Jesus. Pray for His Spirits action to reach the hearts and souls of those who heard, or will hear, the gospel through these activities.

Beseech the Lord to provide wisdom and direction for Jim in connection with his desire to meet with his dear disciple Maxim who is in prison. The opposition being encountered could be from the enemy or from the Spirit for Maxim’s protection. Pray for discernment.

Dear Family and Friends,

Finally got a moment to write with lots of things happening here in Saransk. Sunday night’s concert at the old downtown house church (Victor, Pastor) was a huge success. This church of about 10 older saints hasn’t seen anything like this for decades!!! The church was full of musicians and people from other churches that we had helped plant plus some nonbelievers. We had a fantastic concert and 2 sermons (Victor and Gennady). During Gennady’s sermon a man came up front and knelt to rededicate himself to God. Gennady stopped his message and put a hand on his shoulder as the man cried and told God he was sorry for his sin!!! The fellowship after the service was electric as we saw people we had not seen for a number of years. How sweet and loving these relationships are. I had a chance to make several appointments with young people who wanted to talk to me. Today, I had one of them with Misha, the son of Sveta, the invalid. He is 19 and repented this August at a youth conference. His life is totally changed we met tonight for 2 1/2 hours studying the Gospel and what it means. Tomorrow night he wants to bring a friend or two to a spontaneous youth gathering in our apartment. Vova, my interpreter from Prague, will lead worship and sing and I will speak. Pray for this meeting. Still no word on my visit to Maxim. Seems that there is lots of opposition to it from several fronts. Pray for wisdom. I really want to see him. If we go, it will be 3 hrs by car to the other side of Mordovia. I really want to go.

Thanks for your prayers. Barbara met with a ladies Bible study group tonight and shared the Gospel with new people who came to the study. God is working and we can hardly keep up with Him!

Much love,
Jim and Barbara

Thank you again for your faithfulness in prayer,

AfricaHopeHigh 5Kilimanjaro Mission

Dear Mission  Partners:

Our “High 5” Kilimanjaro Mission Team is just 30 days from ascending Mt. Kilimanjaro in East Africa with the goal of reaching the summit of almost 20,000 feet.  Our goal is to ascend the highest mountain in Africa in order to reach the lowest valley in the world.  The Rift Valley is the largest, lowest, and longest valley in the world stretching from South Africa all the way past the Dead Sea in Israel.  You need to know that our “High 5” missionary team members are paying for this awesome mountain climb, and we are trusting the Lord’s people to pay for our descent into the valley of the shadow of death.

As you have no doubt heard on the news, the famine and drought in East Africa is severe.  Most of the animals have died and the few that are left are so weak they are about to die.  The nomadic Maasai tribes people have been dependant upon their cows for centuries.  Now they are dependant upon God and God’s people.  This is God’s plan and time for the Maasai.

The timing is NOW to reach the Rift Valley. People are starving to death and eating the bark off of trees and worse.  As Joel 3:14 says,  “Multitudes, multitudes are gathered in the valley of decision!   For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.”  Our missionary team is preparing to enter this valley of decision in Jesus Name.

Lordwilling, we shall first minister to orphans and widows in the Korogocho slum together with the Africa Hope Ministries of Caroline Sarah, Susan Nyambura, and Aggrey Juma.  Then after climbing Kilimanjaro, we shall participate in the launching of Africa Hope Bible Institute with the Maasai tribe on Oct. 19, 2011 and continue teaching the Maasai students the Word of God.

The training of these Maasai Pastors and Christian leadersto shepherd the sheep and plant Church~Schools in every village in the Rift Valley of Kenya is really our main 10~year objective.  This is the “Rift Valley 20/20 Vision”    2010 ~ 2020.

Finally, we shall participate in the dedication celebration of the two brand new water wells at the Children’s Church and Amboseli~Kimana Church on Saturday & Sunday!  Streams of life~giving water are now flowing in the desert and refreshing the Maasai in this parched land.  This will be a great celebration of joy!  Please pray for “Springs of Living Water” to spring up within every soul in Jesus Name as we preach Christ and Him crucified, risen, and coming again!

Africa Hope Ministries Needs:  “Help ~ Healing ~  Hope”

1)  Ministry “Gift Bags” containing practical help and health supplies

2)  Sponsorship of Africa Hope Bible Institute Dedication Luncheon ~ Oct. 19th

3)  Bibles, Theology Courses, Proclaimers, NKJV Study Bibles, Evangecubes

4)  Sponsorship of widows & orphans  “Africa Hope Gift Bags”

5)  4 Africa Hope Bible Institute Tents, Bed Mats, Sheets for 40 AHBI Students

We are trusting the Lord for this promise from Isaiah 43:18~19:  “Forget the former things.  Do not dwell on the past.  See, I the Lord am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up.  Do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wildernessand streams in the desert.”

We are also trusting the Lord to move upon the hearts of 10 “Founding Fathers”for AFRICA HOPE BIBLE INSTITUTE who will invest $500 in the founding of this school in the shadow of the Rift Valley and  Mt. Kilimanjaro.  This is a historic moment with the Maasai of the Rift Valley, and we are moving ahead by faith.  Help us build a “Highway of Holiness”from the highest mountain in Africa … to  the lowest valley in Jesus Name!

As of this writing, our team is trusting the Lord not only for their own missionary support to descend into this valley of decision ministry, but also for  $5,000 of “pure religion”(James 1:27), healing and hope for Kenya.  Team members are now assembling “Africa Hope Gift Bags” and working on the procurement of many needed supplies for this mission.  We will hand-deliver as much humanitarian aid, supplies, and needed finances as we can carry in country.

We can’t do everything, but we can do something.  What we can do, we should do in Jesus Name.  “Whatever you did to the least of these my brethren, you did it unto me.”  Jesus ~ Mt.25:40

Will you join us in this“Faith Adventure?”    How to send “Africa Hope” in Jesus Name:

Update 1 – New Mexico Team

July 15, 2011 by

Church

Well we finally made it to Flagstaff, AZ on the first leg of our journey.  You may have heard that we had some car problems along the way and prayed for us.  Thanks to a few of our team members we were able to get the problem fixed.  Please keep that in prayer for the rest of the trip along with the ministry at the House of Prayer Church.  We’ve had a great day of fellowship together even though it took us “a little longer” than we would have liked.  Perhaps God was protecting us from something further down the road.  Delays may be difficult from a human perspective but they’re divine from a heavenly one… even if we don’t know the reason.

Tomorrow we have another half day of driving and then begin ministry in New Mexico.  Keep the Czech Republic Team in your prayers as well.

Blessings,

New Mexico Team

Hey Mark

Quick update here since I’m borrowing a laptop and am on borrowed time. Things are going GREAT here at camp. Brian, Caleb, and I are doing very well with the team working in the English classes, playing games witht the other campers, and witnessing to them. The Russian people have taken to us, and we are taken by them. We have developed some STRONG relationships here. I just told Wendy via email that the only thing that will eclipse my sadness of leaving our new friends here is that I get to return to her and the kids. This work here is very addicting. Well, I’m off to an “Uno party.” The Uno card game is very popular here this week and is a great way to interact with people. We may stay up until midnight or later playing.

Dear Family and Friends,

We are now into our 3rd day of ministry here at the Family Camp. More people are coming each day. All ministries are producing fruit. The English classes are one of the best means to get to know people. I have 15 in my advanced English class. Most are believers and need encouragement. At the team meeting this morning, several team members asked for prayer for the people at the camp who need the Lord. Please pray for Nikita (15) from Sweden, Natasha, Aven (a Buddhist mother) from the Refugee Camp, Leonid from Jerusalem also from a Refugee Camp in Czech. More names will be added as we spend time with the people God has given to us. Pray for Mike San Martino, who will speak tonight at 7:30pm (10:30am in LA). I have been meeting with several leaders and emerging leaders one on one. I love doing this. Many share deep things that I can hold up to the Lord.

Please keep praying!!!

Much love,

Jim Liljegren

Update 4 – Gil & Carol Harder – From Africa

May 24, 2011 by

The Harder’s – From Africa

Before we left our Kitengela, Kenya hotel, Carol led the hotel manager Mustapha Wazir to Christ! He was in between the Koran and the Bible, and now is in Christ! We gave him a bible and handed him off to Pastor Thomas & Elder Frank and the Kitengela church family. We traveled South with Aggrey and Bishop Richard to Emali where 63 Maasai pastors were waiting for us. We conducted an all day Bible Conference together with them and celebrated the Lord’s Table together in the bush.

There was great joy among the bush churches when we presented them with Maasai “Proclaimers” or as they call them the “Talking Bush Bibles.” 85% of the Maasai cannot read or write so these audio-bibles in Maasai were living water to thirsty souls. We proceeded to the “Children’s Church” far out in the bush. Our 4X4 rig was challenged by the journey, but it was well worth it. We got to see the new water well and the streams in the desert bursting forth from the dry ground. The people here have walked nearly 7 miles (one way) for water from a muddy river for many years. It was a long hard journey and the water made them all sick from parasites. Now water is flowing pure and sweet right next to the “Children’s Church.” Carol taught the chidren and we preached the Gospel to the people. The first people to respond were the two oldest people in the region. It was a tremendous breakthrough for these two elders to repent and confess Christ after many years of resistance. It all happened at the Children’s Church in the bush. Unless we become as little children, we shall never see the Kingdom of God.

We went to the Maasai Market in Kimana-Amboseli where Carol discovered numerous African bargains. It is traditional for the Maasai to give a unique Maasai name to those who come to minister among them. Last year I received the name “Saruni” which means one who brings people together. After observing Carol as a teacher and evangelist among the villages, Carol was given the Maasai name: “MrsCJesu.” This is Maasai for “Praise the Lord!” She is my wife, so therefore she is “Mrs.” Her name begins with “C” and she loves Jesus … so Carol’s Maasai name is now officially: “Mrs. C Jesu” Praise the Lord!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS! After flying from Kenya to Uganda, we took a 7 hour bus ride to Northern Uganda. We endured the non-stop bawdy comedy of a Muslim “Bus Jester” who entertained everyone up and down the aisle with dirty jokes and stories. Suddenly our bus swerved in the darkness and almost tipped over as another vehicle without lights came head on in our lane. It was a close call and sobered the 60+ passengers on our bus. Pastor James Okori then announced to the passengers that the Lord has spared the lives of everyone on board because of His mercies and His missionaries on board. He asked the “Bus Comedian” where he would be had we all crashed and died. The joker was silent. He had no answer. Then Pastor James and several of the other pastors traveling with us preached the Gospel to listening hearts and ears throughout the rest of our journey. The Gospel message entered deeply into every heart! Thank you again for praying! We have arrived safely home in Lira by the mercies of the Lord and the help of your prayers.

It is Sunday, May 22nd, and we have had a wonderful day preaching the Gospel … first in the Church and then all over the nation! As the Lord would have it, Carol & I and our Africa Hope Bible Institute Board scheduled a “Press Conference” announcing this week’s graduate courses we shall be teaching at the school. Six news reporters from the radio, newpapers, and television came to the press conference today after church. After covering our Bible School story, they plied us with questions about the “May 21 false prophecy” and the end of the world. Even here in Lira, Uganda there was fear and even a bill board advertizing the end of the world on May 21, 2011. Today, May 22nd, the billboard was torn down and became the major topic of conversation in this region.

As a result, we spent the afternoon preaching the Gospel and announcing the Good News of the Kingdom and the return of our King on the radio, in the newspapers, and on Ugandan television! We are still here after this latest “False Prophecy” of judgment upon the world, because we are still living in the age of grace and mercy. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!

Tomorrow we begin the week long Bible Conference teaching at Africa Hope Bible Institute. Thank you for praying to the Lord of the Harvest and investing in this great harvest of souls in Africa. God has opened a great door of opportunity in this land we are happy to be here as your missionary Ambassadors in Jesus Name!

Gil & Carol Harder – From Africa

Gil & Carol ~ Africa Field Report ~ May 14, 2011

Greetings “Jambo” from Kenya! I knew she was good. I knew that I loved her. But I just haven’t appreciate just how lovely, passionate, and good my wife Carol really is until this mission!

On Thursday: In the Dandora slum we brought hope to the orphans and widows served so well by the Africa Hope ministries of Caroline Sarah. Together with Aggrey, Susan, and Thomas, Carol taught the “Wordless Book” with words and also brought comfort to our young friend Grace. Her husband Vincent was a gatekeeper in the house of the Lord at All Nations Church in Dandora when a Mongiki gang of robbers attacked the church and beat Vincent to death. Now Vincent’s young wife Grace is a widow and she and her 3 young children are part of our Africa Hope ministry to the widows and fatherless in Dandora. Please pray for Grace and her family of fatherless children as she now is part of the ministry of Caroline Sarah in Dandora Africa Hope Ministries.

On Friday: At the Gil Harder Academy in Kitengela, we delivered new posters, books, school supplies, and encouraged our teachers. When it came time for Chapel, Carol not only taught with the “Picture Story Board” but evangelized the 49 students of which 19 prayed to receive Christ as their personal Savior! Bwanna Asifeeway ~ PTL!

On Saturday, May 14, Today: With passion and impact, Carol conducted our “Teacher Training Conference” with our school teachers, staff, and board members. Carol has taught the bible for over 30 years and home~schooled all 4 of our children. I am blessed and our children are blessed by her teachings. The response was wonderful, and we pray for eternal fruit in the currency of the Kenyan lives and nation. I am blessed and proud of Carol. Thank God for this godly teacher and wife!

LIVING WATER! We have been praying for a water project with our Maasai friends in ministry here in Kenya. As the Lord would have it, we got the news directly from our missionary friend Carol Perkins and Bishop Richard Keturai at the outset of our “Teacher’s Conference” today. It was so awesome to hear that the “Children’s Church” now has water! After much prayer and opposition, the drilling began. Other wells in the region have hit bitter salty water. The scientific water geologist said “Stop” drilling when no water was found at 130 meters (390 feet). The financial concerns were also shouting “Stop.” However, the Well Digger said, “Go” and let us drill 150 Meters” because God is telling me to drill deeper. At 145 meters (435 feet) the drill hit a large river of water which gushed out at high pressure. Immediately the local village people ran to taste the water to taste and see if it was good. It is crystal clear, pure, sweet water!

THANK YOU for praying for living water to be found. This river of life is flowing now throughout the Rift Valley of Kenya from hidden springs in the rock. The “Childrens Church” was started by children and now has living water. The well is a gusher that will never run dry. God has provided springs in the desert!

Tomorrow is Sunday, May 15. We shall preach in Kitengela and then travel South to Emali to conduct a Pastor’s Conference with the Maasai Pastors on Monday. On Tuesday we travel farther South into the bush of the Rift Valley to the “Children’s Church” where the water of life is flowing to conduct a great evangelistic outreach to all the surrounding villages. Pray for a great turning to the Lord in this dry and barren land where no water has been. The people are hungry and thirsty here.

We are fine. Carol is amazing. God is so good. It is His nature! Thank you for sending “Africa Hope” to this place where there are now streams in the desert! Together, let us “Drill Deeper” into the Rock of our Salvation … until the streams of living water flow out of our inner as Jesus promised![

Update 2 – Gil & Carol Harder – Africa

May 3, 2011 by

MAY 1, 2011 ~ Kenya ~ Uganda Mission Prayer Requests ~ Gil & Carol

“MAY DAY” is an internationally recognized distress signal. It is also recognized in Heaven as PRAYER which is always answered in Jesus Name according to God’s good will even better than we prayed ~ Ephesians 3:20.

Carol & I leave for Africa next week and are sending out these “MAY DAY” prayer requests. The Rift Valley in Kenya is dying of thirst due to drought. Uganda is revolting against their despotic leaders. The world is at war. We just heard that Osama bin Laden was shot dead. But the truth is, war, disease, and famine do not increase the death toll. The mortality rate remains constant at 100%. Everybody dies. However, not everyone lives before or after they die. That is why Jesus came and why we are going with the GOOD NEWS of eternal life!

We have three “May Day” prayer requests for this mission to Kenya and Uganda.

#1 In Kenya, right now our missionary colleague and Greg Perkins mother, Carol Perkins and team, are trying to drill a water well at the new Amboseli Church where we hope to launch a new Africa Hope Bible Institute this Fall. The people are dying of thirst and literally eating the bark off the trees. Over 85% of the Maasai cattle have died in the Rift Valley region of these nomadic peoples. Now the well drilling is being held up for what reasons we do not know. PRAY FOR LIVING WATER to flow freely from the ground in Jesus Name. This is spiritual warfare. We need a “May Day Miracle.”

#2 In Kenya, Carol & I will be doing teacher training at two Christian Primary schools and also preparing to launch a new Africa Hope Bible Institute in the Rift Valley in the Fall at the newly planted Amboseli Church. This is where the water well is desperately needed right now. We also need wisdom in training Christian teachers to teach the “Three R’s” from a Christian viewpoint and make sure they are truely providing a solid Christian education.

#3 In Uganda we ask on behalf of our “Africa Hope Bible Institute” for wisdom in the midst of spiraling inflation and national unrest for safety and sustainability for our school. Because of the recent doubling of food prices in Uganda, our students and teachers are starving and short on supplies. We are bringing Bibles, Proclaimers (Talking Bush Bibles), and as much healing, hope, and help as our souls and suitcases can carry. Our “May Day” prayer request is for $1,800 to help our students and teachers complete this year of studies at AHBI. Carol & I are teaching a week of graduate studies in Lira, Uganda and delivering hope for the nations.

Thank You for sending “Africa Hope” in Jesus Name! The death toll may be constant, but Jesus has opened the life gate in order that whosoever will may come and drink freely of the water of life and live forever. Even a cup of water given in Jesus name makes a world of difference!

Subject: Fwd: Jim, Dustin, and David Arrived Home Today — The EAGLES have landed

Well, maybe not the Eagles band, but our intrepid threesome has landed in California. Praise the Lord, thank Him, and bless his Holy Name.
———————————————————–
Dear Family and Friends,
After 15 1/2 hrs in the air, we finally arrived safe and sound at LAX this afternoon. I hate these long flights…actually two flights – Athens to Rome to LA. Thank you for your prayers! Thank you, Peter, for sending out these ministry updates! We appreciate you a lot!
For those of you in the LA area, we will have a mission trip report after Easter some Sunday. We have a lot more to share including more info about the wallet snatching! God really protected us from something worse happening!
One neat thing happened in downtown Athens this past Thursday night. For the first time, some of the area Greek and Immigrant Christian churches gathered in a city square and proclaimed a day of repentance and prayer. Several pastors spoke, scriptures were read and prayers spoken. This was a very moving event! About 500-600 people attended. God is moving in Greece! Please pray for revival in Greece.

Happy Palm Sunday and Easter!
“He is risen! He is risen indeed!”

Jim and the Team
PS. Mike and Tienette are visiting Anatolie, the Russian speaking church planter in Paris we visited last Nov, until Tuesday. Please pray for them as well.
———————————————–
P.S. from Peter. If there is any way for you to participate when Missionary Report Sunday is scheduled, please DON’T MISS OUT on sharing in the blessing of God that flow from these mission trips back to those who help send the Eagles out with cash and prayer.

IHS,
Peter

Update 9 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

Dear Family And Friends,

Finally got email access tonight. Tienette, Mike and I visited the brothel areas in downtown Athens this morning thru a ministry that Daniela, the church planter’s wife, is involved in. Tienette has a real interest in this huge need. It was so sad to see these girls involved in this evil activity. Can’t go into details now. We also met a full time missionary who is involved in helping churches in Greece be healthy ones. There are 200 evangelical churches in Greece … about 30,000 believers. Tonight we attended a mid-week service at the First Greece Evangelical Church right in front of the Acropolis. Again, we appreciate your prayers. Tomorrow, we will meet with Sergey, the Russian speaking church planter, we support here.

Thanks, again, for your prayers!
Love to all,
Jim and the Team
———————————————————–

As you can see, prayer is working and needed, and turns happenstance into the providence of divine appointments.

A devotional quote from Martin Luther: “We are to believe and live and love and work as though Jesus Christ died yesterday, rose today and is coming again tomorrow”.Â

And scripture from Psalm 143. (1) Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. (8) Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. (10) Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

Pray for continued health, opportunity and effectiveness for the team.

Thank God for the opportunity to partner with our ‘front line’ team members in this important ministry.

Have a blessed day,
IHS,
Peter

Update 8 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

 Dear Family And Friends,

We got home from our trip to Vienna a little while ago. Now it is 12:30am Tuesday.

Over the past 3 days we have traveled 1,000 miles by car to a refugee camp, various church plant Sunday services and to TCM (Vienna Bible Institute). All good experiences. We also met with one of the family camp directors so we are well on our way to completing our preparations for this summer’s camp. We are planning for 130 Russians from the 7 church plants. Please pray thanks to God for successful planning and relationship building.
Â
This morning we will fly to Athens to encourage Sergey and Daniela, our church planter couple there. Daniela is also heavily involved in the sex trafficking problem in Athens. Please pray for no excess baggage fees as we will be over weight. God helped us thru the Moscow to Vienna to Prague flights with about 15 kilos over weight but they let us go. A small but important miracle…

Four more days…pray for endurance. David, Dustin and I are a bit tired! Mike and Tienette are having a little trouble adjusting to the time change…pray that they get sleep tonight.

Thank you again for your faithful prayers. You have no idea how they are helping us!

Much Love,

Jim And The Team

Update 7 – On Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

April 12, 2011 by

Dear Praying Team members,

I expect that Jim and the team had a very busy weekend in Prague and sketchy internet service. Why would I surmize that? I’ve not heard from Jim all weekend except to say that his luggage had arrived: “HI PETER, MY LUGGAGE FINALLY CAME TODAY. THANK THE LORD! BLESSINGS, JIM. Dave Anthold did get access to the internet and updated http://everydaysnapshots.com/ on the 8th and 8th.

Do you remember the old adage that “No news is good news”? I know that bad news travels faster and broader than good news, especially in our globally connected internet world where our technology supports the premise of the old adage. But, I have never liked this adage and it’s premise, especially in our electronically connected world. When you don’t get a call or text from someone who regularly communicates it makes you wonder what went wrong. When your chatty Facebook and Twitter friends stop posting their updates it makes you wonder what went wrong. Result = anxiety. So how do you and I handle our anxiety? Do we post messages asking for an update, send a request for response in email, call the absent person directly, ask others if they have heard from them or WORRY. Many of us do all this before remembering to PRAY. A wonderful passage from Philippians 4:4-6 gives us the best response to anxiety producing circumstances. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be know to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

With the lack of up-to-date news in mind, please take the passage in Phillipians to heart and PRAY NOW for the well being of the team and safe travels from Prague to Vienna (today) and Athens (tomorrow). I will keep you posted upon the receipt of new news as soon as I receive it and have opportunity to broadcast.

May you once again be blessed by your time(s) of communication directly with our gracious Lord.

IHS,
Peter

Update 6 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

April 10, 2011 by

Dear Missions Prayer Team,
Today’s report has more details of great events in Saransk, events that caused the host of heavenly angels to rejoice with loud Hosannas. Let us join the chorus with them today. Also a travel update.
—————————————————
From Jim regarding Saransk,
Â
Dear Family and Friends,
While in Saransk, valentine repented with me. He is the father of Sveta, the invalid. I had never met him before but he was very ready to believe and receive Christ (John 1:12). During one of our past teams in Saransk, Sveta and her niece, Olga, also repented. Please pray for Valentine. Also, pray for Yarden and Anya who I shared the gospel with at New Life Church. They are husband and wife. Anya and their teenage girls have recently started attending the church. Dustin gave the gospel with a sports teacher at the school we attended. His name is Dima. Please pray for his salvation. I have witnessed to him many times before. Your prayers are helping us!!!
Â
And regarding travel,
Â
We all arrived in Prague safely. PTL! However, my luggage is somewhere between Moscow, Vienna, and Prague. Please pray that it is found and sent on to me in Prague. Today we will visit a refugee camp where many of our summer camp friends live. Some of them we led to Christ on prior trips. Then, we will have a summer camp planning session.
Â
Please don’t give up praying. We are depending on you.
I am feeling pretty good physically this trip and very pleased with the Lord ‘s guidance for the summer missions outreach events!
Â
Much love,
Jim and the team
—————————————————
A devotional thought that I want to share from last Wednesday’s Encounter with God. The Text was Mark 12:35-40. The quote: “What is it that truly motivates us in each sphere of our living, whether public or private, religious or social, leisure or work? In each area, we are challenged to check whether we show love for God and love for neighbor, or whether any or all of our actions indicate only love for our selfish selves!” Pray that all of us drive our lives with the 2 greatest commandments!
Â
HIS,
Peter

Update 5 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

April 10, 2011 by

Dear Russia Missions Prayer Team,
I received the following from Jim early this morning but without time before my cross US flights to get it forwarded.
—————————————————————
Dear Family and Friends,
We are now in Moscow after a thrilling but exhausting time of ministry in Saransk. I had 21 appointments in 3 days. We met with church leaders and members talking about what has been happening in their churches and lives. I go way back to some of these people. We had a New Life Church meeting on Wednesday night. Dustin met with youth and youth leaders and inspired them in their ministry. There were several youth pastors from other churches. I met the faithful from New Life Church. It was a treat to see them and bless them.
Â
The hard thing about Saransk is that the churches are not growing and don’t have a vision for church planting. That is why we are working now in Pskov and Petrozavodsk plus Europe. This morning, after the 11-hour train ride, we had breakfast with Ruvim, the VP of church planting for the Baptist Union. He is my mentor and I love getting insight from him concerning our work in Russia. Now we are waiting for our flight to Prague where Mike Vanis and Tienette Ramos will join us. Your prayers are making a huge difference!!!
Â
Love to all,
Jim and the team
Â
p.s. Dave Anthold has not been able to get online all week but a blog will be coming shortly.
——————————————–
As you can tell, your prayers are felt and appreciated. They will have arrived in Prague today before you get this message. They will spend the weekend there ministering with Pastor Gennady at the Prague Slavic Baptist Church and with the church planters from surrounding areas to plan and coordinate this years summer camp mission activities. Pray that God will continue to guide, direct and bless the team and their local counterparts and that He will prepare many hearts to hear the Good News of Salvation through Christ alone, and sincerely repent, through the coming outreach events.
Â
May our Lord richly bless you with His continuing grace and mercy as you bring the needs of others to the throne of grace.
Â
HIS,
Peter

Dear Praying Team,

Here is the delayed message from Jim in Saransk. His first meeting with Maxim apparently went well and he is joining the team for Summer missions, see below:

NEXT UPDATE…WE ARE NOW IN SARANSK. I HAVE 7 APPOINTMENTS TODAY. THE FIRST ONE WAS MAXIM, WHOSE PASTOR FATHER DIED AT AN EARLY AGE SOME YEARS AGO. MAXIM REBELLED AGAINST GOD FOR YEARS…HE JUST REPENTED 2 WEEKS AGO. WHEN WE SAW EACH OTHER TODAY, HE CRIED ON MY SHOULDER FOR A LONG TIME. I LOVE THIS GUY AND HAVE NEVER GIVEN UP ON HIM. HE IS 24 AND WANTS TO BE A YOUTH LEADER. HE WILL JOIN OUR PSKOV AND PETRO TEAMS THIS SUMMER.

MORE LATER…

LOVE TO ALL,

JIM AND TEAM
—————————-
This was the last message I have received from Jim. Please continue to pray.
The last post on Dave Anthold’s blog http://everydaysnapshots.com was on the 3rd of April.

They may still be in Saransk or on train or plane to Prague to meet up with Mike, Tienette and Pastor Gennady.
Pray for safe travels (No More Thugs!) and for good planning meetings in Prague.

Praying for you to be blessed as you meet the Lord in prayer.

IHS,
Peter

Update 3 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

April 6, 2011 by

DEAR FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
AFTER CHURCH, WE DECIDED TO GO DOWNTOWN TO HAVE SOME FELLOWSHIP TIME WITH PASTOR SASHA AND SOME OF THE TEENAGERS. A VERY STRANGE THING HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS ROBBED TODAY AS WE GOT ON THE METRO. A GROUP OF THUGS PUSHED ME INTO THE METRO (SUBWAY) TRAIN AS WE WERE GETTING ON AND ONE OF THEM GRABBED MY WALLET AND TOOK OFF. I LOST ABOUT $700 AND ALL MY CREDIT CARDS. PASTOR SASHA CHASED ONE OF THE GUYS AND HELD HIM BY THE COLLAR AND DECIDED THAT WAS NOT A GOOD THING TO DO AS THE GUY WAS TALLER AND STRONGER. SASHA LET HIM GO AND HE RAN AWAY. I WAS STANDING CLOSE BY. THE GUY COULD HAVE HAD A KNIFE OR BEAT HIM (US). IT’S ONLY MONEY! GOD PROTECTED US AND WE ARE ALIVE. THE 3 CREDIT CARDS ARE CANCELED. I WAS IN SHOCK FOR AWHILE BUT AM NOW RECOVERED.THE POLICE TOLD US THAT THIS GANG HAS BEEN AROUND FOR AWHILE AND EVEN SPENT TIME IN JAIL. I HAVE NEVER BEEN PICK-POCKETED BEFORE. IT IS A STRANGE FEELING TO BE VIOLATED IN THAT WAY. MANY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ARE FAR WORSE OFF IN SO MANY OF THESE STRANGE SITUATIONS.

WE NOW CONTINUE ON BY FLYING TO MOSCOW ON MONDAY AND TAKING THE TRAIN TO SARANSK MONDAY NIGHT. I AM NOT SURE I CAN MAKE IT FINANCIALLY OR NOT. BUT, I AM HAVING BARBARA GIVE MIKE VANIS $500 TO BRING ON THURSDAY. THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS.
MUCH LOVE,
JIM
——————————————
I’m sure many of you continue in prayer for the team even when you don’t get regular news. Probably that’s a sign that more prayer is needed than when you do hear from us.

Thank God for Jim and Sasha’s safety during and after the attack on the subway. Thank Him for the opportunity to continue the trip and to reach Saransk safely. Pray for the ministry opportunities in Saransk, that Jim and the team would be able to be a great encouragement to Pastor Victor Gretchka and other leaders there. Pray that the Saransk Baptist pastors will unite to serve the Lord together with active and effective evangelism. Pray for Jim’s strength, energy and wisdom as he had 7 meetings planned for Wednesday (I think, and it’s now past). Pray for Dustin and Dave that they would be strong arms of assistance to Jim as well as developing new relationships on their own.

Pray for safe travel for Mike Vanis and Tienette Ramos as they travel today.

More details in the morning.
IHS,
Peter

Update 2 – Jim Liljegren – Russia/Europe

April 1, 2011 by

Our team made it to Pskov after driving through a 5-hour blinding snowstorm…such a contrast to LA. It is full on winter here. Also very cold…we had a 3-hour meeting with the area bishop and church planter, Alexander Hubeev today. Now we are set for our summer team. Many exciting things are happening at the mother church. Several people have repented over the past 2 weeks including the pastor’s 15 year old son. We love when pastor’s children come to the lord! Slava bogu!(praise the lord) tonight Dustin spoke to the youth and did a great job. He is a gifted communicator! Tomorrow we will meet with the courtyard director who loves our summer work making his job easier. He is the envy of his peers and has given the church planter permission to do what he wants to in terms of ministry outreach. This is not always the case in Russia or Moldova. The major problem is there is no room or building to rent in which the area where the new church can meet. This is usually the case all over Russia…”don’t let Baptists rent any facility and maybe they will go away!”

The only other thing is to buy a house and fix it up. But, there are no houses for sale now in that area of the town. Pray that God’s house will come on the market and funds can be raised to buy and remodel it. Otherwise, the small church plant meets in Alexander’s apartment. Eph 3:20.

On Thursday, we go back to St. Petersburg and take the night train to Petrozavodsk.

Go! Go! Go!…go and make disciples!

Love to all,

Jim and the team

————————————–

By now they should be on, or boarding, the night train to Petrozavodsk. Please pray for a safe journey and at least a little sleep along the way. Petrozavodsk is the capital of the Republic of Karelia, Russia. It stretches along the western shore of the Lake Onega for some 27 kilometers. Attached a map with the location of Karelia and a picture of one of the older churches in the area.

Please pray for the Summer Team planning process and for the divine appointments the team will make this weekend and in the summer that some may come to repentance and salvation.

A recent quote I read from Corrie ten Boom, “Is prayer your spare tire or your steering wheel?”  I hope we all answer “steering wheel”.

IHS,

Peter
